Sad Family Time GIF by Lifetime

If youā€™re feeling tired this weekā€¦

Spread thin by your mile-long to do listā€¦

Or generally like you donā€™t have time to do the things you loveā€¦

I want to tell you something.

Many of you might not know the story behind Margin Makers and how I got to be so passionate about all this stuff in the first placeā€¦

So, Iā€™m taking it back to the origin story. The epic highs and lows of being a SaaS owner.

Letā€™s find out why margin is the #1 thing you need to succeed as an entrepreneur (and a human being).

Today in 5 minutes or less:

āœ”ļø We need to break up

āœ”ļø I hit an all-time low

āœ”ļø Train like an athlete

WE NEED TO BREAK UP

Has anyone ever broken up with you by saying ā€œI need some space?ā€

Well, as much as that sucks to hear, sometimes it needs to be said. In fact, Iā€™ve found myself repeating that line recently:

I just really need some space.

While Iā€™m certainly not breaking up with anyone, Iā€™m constantly on a journey to live a life with margin, meaning Iā€™m trying to make more space in all areas of my life.

This journey was inspired by one of my fave books, Margin by Dr. Richard Swenson.

He claims that for the sake of progress, we have sacrificed margin.

He says, ā€œMarginless living is the root of all ailment.ā€

Thatā€™s a pretty weighty claim, right?!

When I read this book, I was in a season where I was taking 20+ calls a day. I justified my crammed and exhausting days by boasting them as progress.

If I had 20+ calls in a day, surely I was a super productive businessman and represented progress in all senses of the word! šŸ¤”

Really, I was worn out. A guy who didnā€™t have space for anything else in his life.

You see, when weā€™re motivated solely by progress and stop at nothing to achieve it, weā€™re working ourselves into a cage.

Itā€™s a trap of our own making. šŸŖ¤

Living a life with margin simply looks like ditching things that donā€™t need to be there. Maybe thatā€™s a weekly call or an hour of scrolling on TikTok. Or maybe itā€™s saving that super urgent task for the morning and letting yourself sleep.

Iā€™ve intentionally shifted my mindset to consider empty time and space in my life as the marker of success.

Are you living a marginless life? Would you want to free up some space to actually live and avoid working yourself into a cage?

Take some time to be honest with yourself today. The first step is choosing to change.

I HIT AN ALL-TIME LOWā€¦

I am tired of feeling exhausted.

And not the fulfilling exhaustion you get from adventure, but the empty fatigue kind of exhaustion you get from continuous cycles of grind.

After my first year in my MBA program, I remember telling my wife this. I was EXHAUSTED.

15 hours a week went to developing my thesis, a 100-page plan that determined my success, and another 40+ went to my business. I donā€™t even know how my wife and I had time for each otherā€¦

Ahh, thatā€™s right. I didnā€™t sleep.

How successful can we feel if we achieved what we wanted, yet come out the other side alone and barely functioning?

Thatā€™s why Iā€™ve changed how I approach business goals.

TRAIN LIKE AN ATHLETE

Since those days, Iā€™ve learnedā€¦

  1. I donā€™t get closer to success when I let go of myself and my priorities (family and health)

  2. More time on something doesnā€™t always equate to success

Progress actually takes place when you refuel yourself, not only the business.

Getting good sleep, eating quality food, and prioritizing relationships SHOULD be a part of your success equation.

This is how professional athletes train.

They prioritize self-care and health in line with their careers. They have routines, a daily cadence of refueling themselves to perform their best when theyā€™re on the field.

And then they leave it all out there, and go back to their routines until the next match because they know, they wonā€™t do better if they donā€™tā€¦

  • Sleep

  • Eat proper meals

  • Relax

ā€¦ in between games.

The whole picture matters.

Train yourself like an athlete, instead of draining yourself like an entrepreneur.

THAT is why I started Margin Makers.

So that folks who chose the entrepreneur life like me donā€™t end up burnt out, exhausted, and caged by the business they built to find freedom.

If you wanna see your income grow to 6 figures and build your dream lifestyle, work alone wonā€™t get you there.

Health, relationships, and other responsibilities play a vital role in your performance. Make time for them and factor them into your goals.

Letā€™s keep making margin, together.

To profiting more and working less. šŸ’ø
