How paying for talent actually saves you money

How paying for talent actually saves you money šŸ†ļø

Letā€™s talk about something every entrepreneur faces:

The temptation to cut costs.

In todayā€™s world, with inflation and globalization, itā€™s easy to see why many businesses look to outsource or go global to save money.

And while that might seem like the right move, Iā€™ve learned firsthand that sometimes the real cost-saving is in paying premium for top talentā€”

especially when things donā€™t go according to plan.

So hereā€™s the question: Is it worth it to pay more for a team that can truly make things happen, or is going the cheaper route more cost-effective in the long run?

Today in 5 minutes or less:

āœ”ļø He did what in 18 minutes?

āœ”ļø Cheap fixes break easy

āœ”ļø Is your team the right fit?

HE DID WHAT IN 18 MINUTES?

Iā€™ve been in a season where, frankly, I havenā€™t been feeling like my best self.

We all go through those phases where youā€™re pushing hard, but somethingā€™s off. Maybe it's the mental fatigue, maybe itā€™s the curveballs life *keeps* on throwing me, but either way, I found myself struggling to show up fully.

I wasnā€™t running on all cylinders, and I wasnā€™t sure Iā€™d be able to pull off what needed to get doneā€”like a recent live event.

But hereā€™s the kicker: when you invest in a team that truly gets it, even on your off days, the wheels keep turning.

I watched my team step in with talent, creativity, and a solution-focused mindset that turned potential disaster into one of the best events weā€™ve ever had. No question, the result wouldnā€™t have been as smooth if Iā€™d chosen to cut costs on talent.

Hereā€™s a real-life example: our event setup was on the verge of falling apart.

I was given a last-minute heads up that we needed to set up our boothā€”in hours, not days. The budget? Tight. The resources? Limited. But what happened next? My team, led by Mario, sprang into action.

18 minutes after I handed over the budget and task, Mario had secured an LED wall within budget and had it installed before the event began. No panic, no hesitationā€”just solutions that came from a team that understood the mission, understood the urgency, and got it done.

This is what happens when you pay for talent.

You donā€™t have to micromanage. You donā€™t have to do it all. You hire people who can take something on and make it happen, no questions asked.

CHEAP FIXES BREAK EASY

Hereā€™s the hard truth:

When you hire the cheapest option, youā€™re not just paying with moneyā€¦ youā€™re paying with your time, energy, and mental bandwidth.

You might save a few bucks, but when things go wrongā€”when the deadlines slip or the quality of work isn't where it needs to beā€”you find yourself stuck putting out fires instead of growing your business.

And letā€™s be real: that opportunity cost? Itā€™s wayyy higher than you think.

Iā€™ve learned that paying a little more for someone who gets it (the kind of person who doesnā€™t need to be reminded, who isnā€™t just following a checklist but actually owns the task) pays off big time.

So, if you're thinking about cutting costs, ask yourself:

How much is your time really worth? How much is it worth to avoid the stress of fixing things later or managing poor-quality work?

IS YOUR TEAM THE RIGHT FIT?

Whatā€™s the real takeaway here?

Your team is everything.

If youā€™re interested in becoming more than a one-man show, hereā€™s my advice: As your business grows, so should your team.

And as your team grows, you should always look for ways to pay your people well.

The opportunity cost of hiring cheap labor is often a lot more than you thinkā€”and thatā€™s something Iā€™m constantly learning.

When you surround yourself with a team that gets your vision, has the expertise, and operates with the same level of urgency and professionalism as you, itā€™s transformational.

You get to step back and focus on what matters most, knowing the right people are in place to carry things forward.

Iā€™m going to leave you with thisā€¦

Are you optimizing for the lowest cost, or the highest quality?
