The Accidental Customer

The accidental customer š

Last December I was probably not going to hit my step goal.
So I created a challenge. Not for marketing or lead genā¦
Genuinely because I couldnāt organize a step challenge and then fail at it publicly.
I invited people in. Gave everyone visibility into each otherās daily steps.
I called it the Move Crew.
Six months later, that same challenge landed us a multi-million-dollar customer who had never even heard of HighLevel.
ā¦I didnāt mean to do that.

Today in 3 minutes or less:
āļø The Challenge I Made For Me
āļø The Business That Found Us Anyway
āļø Marketing Is Just Problem Solving

š¶ The Challenge I Made For Me
Here's the whole origin story.
December is an insane time. There was zero chance I was hitting my step goal on my own. Soooo I turned up the heat by making it public.
I created a challenge, invited people in, and gave everyone visibility into my daily steps.
I even upped the ante by having people buy into it, having us all pitch in $100 to split the prize pot.
Iām a big believer in āpaying to pay attention.ā With the hundreds of priorities business owners juggle every day, we tend to need some incentive to care.
There was no clever scheme behind it. This was purely "I need accountability or I will absolutely fail at this on my own."
I ran it for six months. I took June and July off.
And I just started it back up in August.
The whole time I thought of it as personal, not business.

š¤ The Business That Found Us Anyway
Then something happened.
Someone signed up for the challenge through a friend of a friend. Turns out they own a multi-million-dollar boat rental businessā¦
They'd never heard of HighLevel. Not on our radar at all.
Through the challenge, they got exposed to what we do. They realized HighLevel could automate half their business. They realized we could just build the automations for themā¦
Aaand they signed up for one of our top-tier VA packages. š¤Æ
No ads. No email sequence. No sales call.
Just⦠problem solved, relationship built, business followed.

š” Marketing Is Just Problem Solving
I was on a podcast recently and someone asked me to define business in the simplest terms.
Here's what I landed on:
Business is monetized problem solving. Marketing is connecting a person who has that problem with the business that solves it.
That's it. That's the whole thing.
Most business owners are great at the solving part.
They're stumped on the connecting part.
And I think it's because we overcomplicate marketing to the point where we forget it's the same skill we already have, just pointed at a different set of problems.
Mature businesses don't just solve one problem for their customers.
They solve multiple. Loneliness. Boredom. Feeling behind. Needing accountability.
Our YouTube channel doesn't sell HighLevel⦠it solves the problem of "I want to learn something useful for the next hour." Our step challenge doesn't sell HighLevel⦠it solves the problem of "I sit on Zoom all day and can't prioritize fitness."
When you solve those problems well, the sale for your actual business becomes the easy part. Because now you're not a vendor.
You're the person who helps.

š What You Can Do Today
You already know how to solve problems. That's why you have a business.
You just need to solve a few different problems for the same people.
Write down 3 other problems your ideal customer has beyond your core offer.
Pick one you could solve for free ā through content, a challenge, a community, whatever fits your style.
Show up in their life as helpful before you show up as a pitch.
The best marketing doesn't feel like marketing. It just feels like someone showing up with something useful.
Keep solving problems šŖ
Also⦠Itās not to late to join the August Move Crew Challenge. The community is unmatched. š
