What To Do When You've Bought Back Your Time

You’ve worked hard, streamlined your processes, and cleared your calendar.
You've read Margin Makers and actually implemented the advice.
You’ve bought back your time.
Now, the big question is: What do you do with it?

Today in 6 minutes or less:
✔️ The Pressure of Having Extra Time
✔️ The Decision-Making Guideline for Growth
✔️ Here’s What You Do With Your Time

🕰️ The Pressure of Having Extra Time
For the first time in a while, I’ve found myself with pockets of extra time.
With most of my kids in school now (the ones who can actually say my name, that is)…
I realized I had a window of freedom that I wasn’t used to.
I could fill it with anything, and that’s where the pressure hits.
The reality is, whatever you do with your extra time becomes your new normal.
If you spend it making small tweaks to things that don’t matter, that will become your default.
If you use that margin for growth, creativity, and pushing boundaries, that becomes your new habit.
But here’s the key: You have to reinvest your margin wisely.
If you don’t, you risk stagnation, or worse—wasting it.

💪 The Decision-Making Guideline for Growth
When you start freeing up time, it’s like a muscle. The more time you buy back, the more you have to use it to fuel your biggest goals.
So, the real question is: What should you do with this new-found margin?
Here’s my answer 👇️
You need to make decisions based on your BIGGEST goals.
I’ve got a personal decision-making guideline (my #1 goal that guides everything I do) that I use with my wife:
“We want to raise kind and confident human beings who will want to spend time with me when they no longer have to.”
Here’s an example of how this goal shapes my time:
My son Kingston is shy, and he just started first grade.
I could have just dropped him off at school and said, “Good luck making friends, buddy.” After all, this approach would save me lots of time…
But instead, I took the time to create an incentivized system where he earns a cool, shiny pirate coin for every fact he learns about kids in his class.
After 50 coins, he gets a helicopter toy. (I’m hoping this times out with Christmas 🤣)
It’s a fun, creative way to teach him to be brave and social.
The goal is bigger than the toy—it's about raising a confident, kind human.
This mindset doesn’t just apply to my kids. It’s about thinking differently about how I spend my time.
You need to name that goal that determines how YOU spend your time and make decisions.
It can be business or $ related… It doesn’t have to be anything like mine!

👇️ Here’s What You Do With Your Time
Having a big goal changes everything.
I’ve got another goal hanging in my office: “I want a six-pack in 25 years.”
It might sound a little out there… But it forces me to think about what I need to do today to make that happen.
You can get results faster if you start with a long-term goal.
If I can imagine having a six-pack in 25 years, I can reverse-engineer what should be true for that goal to happen.
What should be true today, next year, in 5 years?
What habits and actions do I need to be consistent with to make that goal a reality?
The same goes for your goals. Whether it’s business, health, or life, set a big enough goal so that it pushes you beyond your current limits. Reverse-engineer what needs to be true today to make it happen.
So, Here’s What You Do with Your Time:
Reinvest it into growth: Don’t waste it on low-impact tasks. Use your margin to elevate yourself, your business, your life.
Set a big enough goal: Think beyond your current limits. Like my six-pack goal, it needs to stretch you.
Reverse-engineer it: Break down what needs to happen today, tomorrow, and next year to make that big vision a reality.

Even if you haven’t fully bought back your time, using your time wisely is a DAILY lift.
There are days I feel that margin… And there are days I spend tweaking funnels and doing tasks I could delegate.
Take it day by day. Don’t be afraid to think bigger. Take that margin and run with it.
